Salary Calculator

Job offers and pay slips often use different time periods, which makes them hard to compare. This calculator turns any pay figure into all the others. Enter the amount you are paid and choose how it is paid: per year, per month, twice a month, every two weeks, per week or per hour.

Then enter the hours and days you work each week. The hours are used to work out your hourly rate from a salary, or your yearly pay from an hourly wage. The days are used for your daily rate. If you want a rough idea of your pay after tax, type a flat tax percentage. This is only a simple estimate and does not replace a real tax calculation.

After you press Calculate, you will see your yearly, monthly and hourly pay at the top and a full table below showing every pay period. If you entered a tax rate, the table shows both the before tax and the after tax amounts. This is useful when you are comparing a salaried job with an hourly job, or checking whether a pay rise is as big as it sounds.

First the calculator turns your pay into a yearly figure. Hourly pay is multiplied by the hours per week and then by 52. Weekly pay is multiplied by 52, pay every two weeks by 26, pay twice a month by 24 and monthly pay by 12.

From the yearly figure it works backwards. Weekly pay is yearly pay / 52, monthly is yearly / 12, and hourly is yearly / (52 x hours per week). Daily pay is yearly / (52 x days per week). Pay after tax is the amount multiplied by (1 minus the tax rate).
